George Hodel Source & Elizabeth Short Source

This case has been unsolved for 70 years but there has been no shortage of suspect. One on the suspects was Robert Manly. Manly meet Short at San Diego and was the one who dropped of Short at the Biltmore Hotel. However, he return to San Diego a week before her body discovered making it unlikely he was the killer. Another suspect is George Hodel, at the time Hodel lived in LA and his house had a secret room in which his children weren’t allowed in. Hodel’s son home was five at the time of Short’s murder, Steve Hodel later grew up to become a police investigator. He became convinced that his father was the Short’s murderer. Steve facts make a compelling case, George was highly intelligent, he studied surgery in medical school and also ran the LA county’s venereal disease clinic. This suggest that he was capable of the surgical disembowelment and mutilation of Short. As well as bring a doctor, George was also quite the bachelor, having 11 children from five different women. There was also a photo of a women found by Steve that when it went under facial recognition it was said to have a 90% match with other photos of Short. Steve also claim that his father’s handwriting was eerily similar to those of the letter sent to the police following Short’s murder. However, there were mixed results when reviewed by experts. Also in an old police file Steve found, it stated that Short and George did know each other. It was believed that George paid off the police was many of the physical evidence against him had disappeared but no body knows for sure and the case remains closed.
