One of the most famous unsolved mysteries is the murder of Elizabeth Short, better know as The Black Dahlia. She was discovered cut in half and drained of blood on a street avenue in Los Angeles. When found, she was also so pale that the person who found her, mistaken her for a mannequin. The body was cut with such surgical precision, that left trauma to internal organs or bones. Her face was also cut from her mouth towards her ears to form a haunting smile. Not blood was found at the scene, making it evident her body was moved there after the murder. Nine days after the body was discovered, the examiner received a letter from an anonymous person with Short’s personal belonging including her social security card, birth certificate, snapshots and an old address book which has pages missing. The items were also smelled of gasoline due to being rubbed with it to remove any finger prints. Police and press received other letters following the murders.Before her murder, the last place many reported last seeing Short was at the Biltmore Hotel at which she was staying at, a hotel which is reportedly haunted. After Short has checked into the hotel, she headed a couple streets away to Crown Grill Bar, the last true place she would have been seen.
